In Too Deep!

Lately, I’ve been challenged in the area of depth.I’m someone who feels completely and deeply—joy or sorrow, triumph or defeat—I experience it fully. At times, it can feel overwhelming. Frustrating even—because many don’t understand me, or they choose not to. Their prerogative, lol. I’m lit.
In prayer recently, something dropped in my spirit: I shouldn’t be afraid of depth. I shouldn’t shy away from being the kind of person who feels deeply. Rewards can be found in shallow places—but they rarely last. True, sustaining reward is found in the deep.
Take a body of water, for example. Say you’re fishing: You cast your line in the shallow end—you catch a fish. Yay! But it’s small. That shallow space is just enough for it to survive. It’s safe there.
Now, cast your line in the deep. The fish are bigger, heavier, swimming closer to the ocean floor. Catching them takes patience and skill—but the reward is richer for it. Only the experienced, those willing to go deeper, succeed there.
You might be thinking, “Rachel, what does this have to do with anything?”
Here’s the thing: for a while, I was okay with a shallow way of life—not in morals or principles—I’ve always lived by a code. But shallow in the sense of downplaying my knowledge, my feelings, my intellect for the sake of acceptance. Many of us do this, and it’s time we stop. Validation from others no longer holds weight for me.
Like the fish that swim deep, I’m learning to stay near my own ocean floor—anchored in the presence of God. Here, I move safely, think deeply, understand clearly, and govern myself accordingly.
So, next time you feel misunderstood, remember: Not everyone is experienced enough to understand you. And that’s okay.
Still speak.
Still feel.
Still love deeply.
Those who are meant to will catch it.
I’ve been in a season of silence, but now, I feel it’s time to speak. No more fear. When you truly know who you are and what you carry inside, fear has no room.
Go where the depth takes you.
